Licensing

A curated library of HTML5 templates published under permissive open-source licences, delivered as a single zip for a flat curation and delivery fee.

Last updated: 17 October 2026.

1. The library

The WebTemps catalog is a curated selection of HTML5 templates published under permissive open-source licences by their original authors. The dominant licence across the library is the MIT Licence, with a smaller share of templates issued under Apache 2.0 and BSD. Templates whose original terms do not permit this kind of curation and delivery are not held in the library. WebTemps acts as a curation and delivery service for publicly-licensed templates, not as a repackaged marketplace.

2. What is in the delivered zip

Every delivered bundle ships with two layers of licence files:

  • At the root of the zip, a top-level LICENSE file. This covers the WebTemps curation and delivery layer only (catalog data, selection logic, bundle layout, the delivered zip as a compiled artefact). It is issued under the MIT Licence.
  • Inside each template folder, a LICENSE file carrying the applicable template-level licence terms from that template's original author. Where an upstream LICENSE file was present in the source, it is preserved and passed through to the buyer alongside the WebTemps curation-layer note.

The template-level licence is what governs the design, markup, styling, imagery and scripts inside each template folder. The curation-layer licence at the root governs the shape of the bundle itself.

3. What the $5 covers

The $5 per-template figure is a curation and delivery fee. WebTemps selects templates from the library on your behalf, bundles them into a single zip and emails a one-click download link. The fee pays for the curation and delivery service. It does not purchase the template files' intellectual property, which is already freely licensed by the original authors under the permissive terms described in section 1.

4. What the buyer may do

Under the per-template licences that travel inside each folder (predominantly MIT, with Apache 2.0 and BSD comparables), the buyer may:

  • Modify the HTML, CSS, JavaScript, imagery and bundled assets freely.
  • Use the files in paid client projects and in the buyer's own commercial projects, with no cap on the number of client sites.
  • Deploy the resulting sites to any hosting provider.
  • Keep the delivered files indefinitely and reuse them across future unrelated projects.
  • Carry the per-template LICENSE text alongside the files when redistributing them as part of a finished site, as the per-template licences require.

5. What the buyer may not do

  • Redistribute or resell individual templates as standalone products in a competing template library or marketplace.
  • Claim authorship of the underlying template designs. The designs come from the original authors referenced in the per-template LICENSE files.
  • Strip or alter the per-template LICENSE files when redistributing a template as part of a finished site.
  • Use the delivered files to build sites that distribute malware, run phishing, host content that is illegal in the buyer's jurisdiction, or infringe someone else's intellectual property.
